How did I become a Realtor®?
I ask myself that question some days! I didn’t dream about being a Realtor when I was a little girl. It wasn’t the family business. So how did I end up here? My dream job was to be an Interior Decorator. It was my passion. In 2003, my dream finally came true and I started TLC Home Décor. I made custom draperies and window treatments, did decorative painting, and hung wallpaper. It was so much fun! Eventually, I added model home staging to my services. My business was built and grew by word of mouth. I didn’t seek out clients, they came to me.
Now fast forward 10 years. It is 2013 and I am approaching 60. First of all, how the heck did that happen? But I digress. I was finding it difficult to keep up with the physical demands of the work that I did. Finding a reliable assistant to do installations was proving to be another challenge. One day my friend said, “Maybe it’s time for a career change?” She was right! I was ready to take on a new challenge.
Real Estate seemed like a logical next career. I already had a good relationship with some local builders and my son was a very successful Realtor. Here’s the problem. “Sales” is not in my DNA. I hate having to deal with car salesmen and telemarketers or people knocking on my door selling “stuff.” I sure didn’t want to be one of those people! So, how do I reconcile that with being a Realtor? A real estate “salesperson?” I’m a pretty determined person, though, so I went through all the training classes and got my license. I was on a team, and did pretty well as a Buyer’s Agent. I was able to help almost 20 clients to find their dream homes.
Last year, the team relationship was dissolved and I’m now independent, representing buyers, sellers, and investors. My desire is to continue to grow my business as a Realtor the same way I built my decorating business, one relationship at a time. I work hard for my clients and put their interests first. I’m here to help carry the load and do all the hard work for you. That’s what I do.
What makes me different?
I’m like a mother bear. My clients are my cubs and I will fight for them. I will protect them. I put their interests above my own.
I’m not all about getting my commission. My goal and focus is finding my clients the right house at the right price. When talking to other agents, they say the first thing they look at is the commission being offered. That’s a major factor in why I don’t offer discounts on listings. I know that your property won’t get shown as much by other agents.
I’m available when you need me. I try to answer every phone call. If I miss a call, I will call back asap. I hear from people all the time “Thank you for calling me back. I’ve called a bunch of other agents and no one has returned my call.”
I have a high ethical standard. I’ve heard so many stories about unethical agents. It’s enough to make your hair stand on end. My word is my bond. I’m not perfect, but I will do my best to always be honest in all of my dealings.
